Why I am running!
Why I am running for Soil and Water Group 5?

I am running for Soil and Water Conservation District because I am passionate about soil and water conservation. In 2009, I studied abroad and gained knowledge regarding the importance of conserving our natural resources. It was evident while abroad that I was not only interested in conservation yet also wanted to bring my knowledge and experiences back to Jacksonville, Florida, my hometown.

I believe conservation of soil and water is important because soil and water are the basis for every person's life. Here are five reasons:
  1. Clean water is needed for drinking consumption.
  2. Clean water is needed for cooking and cleaning.
  3. Clean soil provides for a clean aquifer.
  4. Clean soil provides for a harvest of fresh fruits and vegetables.
  5. Clean soil provides for a harvest of cotton needed for clothes.

I am running because I believe the District has work to do on behalf of the citizens of Duval County. One role that the District has is to be the voice for YOU, the citizen. I have been available throughout my campaign and will stay accessible in order to be able to petition on your behalf.

What will I do as the next Group 5 Supervisor?

I have been working with the Soil and Water Conservation District since early 2010. I have engaged in judging annual speech contests, fundraising and other organizational tasks. As the next Group 5 Supervisor, I am dedicated to serving the citizens! I want to fulfill the mission: "
to plan and implement programs, projects and practices that will serve to promote the conservation of the natural resources in Duval County, Florida." Soil and Water Conservation District is a non-regulatory board that was organized in 1953. Keeping the mission and current concerns facing our natural resources in Duval County, I believe it is vital to elect someone who has passion, working knowledge and energy to serve on the District. Many know that the Supervisor position is unpaid, yet based on Chapter 582 of Florida Statute, we have 12 powers. I will continue utilizing our power, leveraging our influence and building relationships so that we can effectively and efficiently solve for the needs of the Duval County residents.

I am hardworking and dedicated to increasing conservation education and awareness, creating open channels between citizens and the District, partnering with local agencies to complete assignments at no cost to citizens, providing additional tax-free programs that benefit landowners, farmers, etc.

I look forward to working with the current members and those who will join me in 2010. Through teamwork, organization and persistence, I am confident that the Duval County Soil and Water Conservation District will prove to be beneficial as we examine issues and ideas that have, are or will directly affect our community.
